Amazing what being full can do....

I was convinced.  I had the most absolutely, fabulously, adorably, wonderfully, grumpy baby boy.  He was adorable.  Especially when asleep.  Although, this "asleep" didn't seem to happen very often.  He didn't like to sleep.  He liked to eat and he likes to SCREAM!  Believe me...he didnt cry, he screamed!  Rob and I were convinced that he had acid reflux.  Luckily, I had a one month appointment set up so I decided to talk to the doctor about this problem.  Upon talking to the doctor, she didn't feel like acid reflux was the problem.  She felt that there was something else wrong.  She pulled out a calculator and starting punching in numbers having to do with Benjamin's weight.  When we took him to the doctor for his two week he weighed 8 lbs exactly.  At this appointment, he weighed 8 lbs 6 oz.  So, in 19 days, he had gained 6 oz.  She then informed me that he has gained less then 1/3 of what he should have been gaining.  She then suggested that I supplement formula into his diet because he obviously isn't getting enough calories.  She wanted me to come back three days later to check his weight.  I added formula to my sons diet and just from doing that change,

he went from this:

to this:

My son smiles!  He still cries, like all babies do, but he doesn't scream!  The best part is...remember the 6 oz he gained in 19 days?  Well, I took him back three days later....and he was 9 lbs 6 oz!  He gained ONE pound in 3 days!  Amazing what being full can do....

People say it's just gas and that kids don't smile, but this one does... and it's not just gas. Benjamin is so alert and has been since he was born. He watches all around, always looking. And he will watch people when they aren't looking at him. He is very darling. I love my children so much.

Oh Man! That is the hard part about being a parent! The not knowing and then the finding out and having to deal with "is it my fault?" and the "are they going to be okay?" stuff.

I"m glad he's doing so much better! his face sure filled out fast! :)

He is SOOOOOOOO cute! Wow! I love the before and after pictures! Sometimes I feel just the same before and after dinner... probably a good thing nobody is around to take pictures of me screaming!

We had the same thing with Jackson... he seemed fussy all the time and I nursed him practically 24/7. We finally figured out he wasn't gaining enough weight. Except that I tried pumping like a maniac for several weeks before finally "giving up" and giving him a bottle or two every day to supplement... and having him happily gain all the weight he needed to.
