Being Sneaky :)

Rob and I have talked a lot about making lifestyle changes to become more healthy. We both agreed that we need to get the sweets out of the house and eat more fruits and veggies. This is easy for us to do, because we are adults and for the most part, not very picky.

The hard part is making this a lifestyle change in our kids. Especially Lauren who likes nothing but string cheese and mac n cheese! Well, I decided that I was going to be sneaky....

Breakfast we attempted our first green smoothie. Which was red when we were done with it. We used blackberries, strawberries, banana, orange juice and spinach leaves. I actually thought it was quite tasty. Rob...I think he was a little unsure. Robbie tried it and liked it fine but didnt want to try anymore. Lauren....wouldnt get anywhere near it.

So...I decided to think more about Lauren in my sneaky attempts. What could I make that she would eat?...this one was obvious! MAC N CHEESE!!!

So for dinner tonight, I made homemade mac n' cheese. In the cheese I mixed pureed carrots and pureed spinach leaves. Okay, okay....the color changed a bit...kind of a greenish orange. But guess what. Lauren said, "mmmm....this is really good!" Yippee! And hey, with the lights dimmed to barely on, they couldn't even tell the color was off. Next time, i'll try califlower and carrots. That shouldn't change the color!

And for tomorrow.....? I think we'll do a peach, raspberry, orange juice and spinach leaf smoothie!

It was ok. Not wonderful. Truth be told I am very picky when it comes to "Smoothies." Like Jamba juice there is only one or two that I actually like. But it was good enough for being healthy :).

For the kids that is great!

Great idea with the mac and cheese. I added pureed cauliflower to scrambled eggs. It was ok if I took a bite of bacon with it :) I also did sweet potatoes in pancakes and that was really tasty. It tasted like pumpkin pancakes! I'm going to try your mac and cheese idea!
